I follow a number of blogs and inspire me. The Better Man Project post “You Are the Creator of Your Story” made the point.

You can’t go back and change what’s happened. “You can choose to look back…with the eyes of judgement or with the eyes that seek wisdom.” I’ve always been bothered by those who say “Never look back.” It never made sense to me. What happened in the past influences what I do now. I learned from the past. I wouldn’t be who I am without my past. Evan Sanders helped me see through different eyes. I spent a lot of time condemning myself for mistakes I can’t change, even as I worked to learn from those mistakes and make different choices. He helped me see that I need to let go of the judgement and embrace whatever I’m able to learn. I never believed God intended us to forget the past; He always intended for us to learn and grow from the past, to incorporate the truths learned to make better decisions and healthier choices. God forgives and forgets because He doesn’t need to learn from the past. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
