Follow Up on Yesterday…

Yesterday’s post focused on my need to step up my game regarding my physical health. Today, it’s about stepping up my game and focusing on my writing goals.

I’ve been struggling with being a caregiver. My parents trained me all of my life to be only that, but training and actual implementation are not even close to the same thing. To my everlasting comfort, David Goggins would agree.

Time to do a bit of remembering first: In one year, I turned out four books. It was brutal, for me. I gave it all I had, but I don’t feel like I gave it my best. It was my best, at the time. I’m looking forward to re-writing those stories. I don’t want to set that kind of pace again. It was amazing to be writing 10-16 hours a day, but it was also ALL I did. I’d lost my job and decided to give the writing a shot. At the time, I used the writing to hide myself away. It was safe. I don’t regret the choice. It was the healthiest, at the time. Most of my new stuff was written from 8PM-1 or 2AM. The rest of the day was spent editing what I’d written at night.

My life is different now. Sleep has become a priority, which requires more time. I spend time with my dad every day. I have a house to keep up and a yard, whatever my dad doesn’t want to do. I eat healthier, which requires more time for preparation. I interact with more people more often. I’ve increased my workout routine, which also requires more time.

I’m taking the good bones of the original stories and adding flesh and blood and tendons and ligaments and skin and clothes and hoping I’m doing it right. I trust God to help me, but I don’t expect Him to do it for me. He’s given me a gift, and it’s up to me to nurture the gift.

Our local library has an author offering workshops every Saturday. I attended the first one. Betty Webb focused on finding tellable stories in the newspaper. She writes mysteries. Not my cup of tea. However, I found the workshop valuable. I needed a fresh perspective. We’ll see how it plays out this week.

  1. Thank you sooo much following my blog!
    Have a blessed day!

    • I look forward to following your projects. God bless.

  2. I’m glad that the workshop was helpful. Yea!

    • Unfortunately, I have five new story ideas. LOL!

      • Cheering for new story ideas. Ready to do editing. 🙂

        • Finishing re-write first. 🙂

          • I’m impatient. Hugs. You are doing great. 🙂

            • Thanks.
