Gifts November 2018 Follow Up

Writing ~ Novellas and novels ~ Schedule deadlines and follow through ~ I want to finish Christmas Lost and the Anthology, write four novellas for another anthology, and outline a four-book Regency series with the first book written.

Creating a home ~ Clean and clutter ~ Vacuum, bath, sweep, dust, throwaway or giveaway to bless someone else. I want a routine I can regularly accomplish. The house is not mine, but I do live here. Nothing can stop me from making things nicer.

Reading ~ Fiction and non-fiction ~ Balance and reduce my TBR pile. I’d like to read 100 books.

Finances ~ Budget, spend better ~ Ledger. I want to be able to meet my financial responsibilities and have a little leftover for fun, while not scrimping on self care.

Faith ~ Bible study, prayer, church ~ War Room ~ I want my habits to be more mindful.

Health ~ Sleep, meals, exercise ~ Consistency and try new recipes. I want to be able to walk up a flight of 14 stairs using alternate feet. Right now, I mostly have to step up using my left because my right has a bad habit of buckling. With slow practice and training, I know I can change this, as long as I don’t hurry things along too quickly, which always sets me back.

Fun ~ Friends and clothes ~ Meals and Holy Clothing ~ I eat breakfast with my sister on Saturdays. I have lunch once a week with octogenarian friends and about three times a month with other friends. However, it’s important for me to acknowledge and celebrate these times.

Every month I want to do one thing in each area. At the end of the month, I want to evaluate if it made life better, made no difference, or made life needlessly complicated.

1 Finish re-write A Promise of Possibilities for re-release, again. Closer. More than half done.

~ I need to spend more time writing. Don’t know how I’m going to go about that. I’m going to keep track this month. Hopefully better than I’ve done with keeping a ledger.

2 Dog bed, still. Not done.

~ Clean and straighten.

3 Intersperse reading material with Christmas stories. Done and continuing.

~ Reading is supposed to be fun.

4 Keep groceries under $50 a week. This is as much about self-discipline as not overeating. Do it again. ~ Close, only a couple dollars over on one day.

~ I can do this.

5 Bible study ~ Doing and loving it.

~ Bible study group starts up again, this month. Listen to online inspirational talks.

6 Maintain walking. Keep working on sleep habits. Eat healthier. Focus on losing one pound at a time. In crease weights for PT to five pounds. Keep working on this. ~ Had to drop down to 0 lb after my lower back spasmed. The good news is that I’m recovering much more quickly. I’m up to 1 lb and will work my way up slowly.

~ Be aware of what my body’s telling me.

7 Keep track of the fun things ~ Sigh… still struggling with this. Sometimes, I feel like I don’t know how to play.

~ I noticed I managed to make this a chore instead of simply fun. I really struggle with this.

Self-discipline isn’t about punishment or deprivation. Self-discipline is about self-empowerment, self-control, making the choices that are best for me. Practicing self-discipline builds self-confidence.


  1. Self discipline….I guess I am just comfortable with it. It has been part of my life, my whole life. In a way it has been a life saver for me.

    • I’m late to the party, but I made it. 🙂 I’m learning it’s a lifesaver for me, too.
