Extortion 17…

On this day, two years ago, a helicopter, Extortion 17, was shot down, killing all 31 on board, 30 fallen warriors and Bart a warrior dog.

Lynn Bukowski shares something she wrote a year ago and it touched me:

The idea of needing to take turns sharing strength, not only with those we know well, but as in this case a total stranger.

I read a blog recently that said we needed to learn all we could before we could be helpful to someone else. I disagree. Children are wonderful examples of helping without knowing much. In Lynn’s piece, she and the gentleman did not know each other or even all the details. They accepted offered help.

Reading Marcus Luttrell’s Lone Survivor changed me. I became more aware of the military community, particularly the SEALs. I drew courage and inspiration from their examples, both the SEALs and their families.

May God bless our troops and their families.

  1. It’s true, children are helpful by nature (until someone teaches them not to be) and so even the smallest help is still help. We don’t need to over-analyze help (what I’ve done forever).

  2. Thank you for sharing such a post of compassion and love…
